CLINICAL REVIEW OF AUGMENTATION MAMMOPLASTY

Abstract
The well developed female breast may be an important characteristic of feminity. a lack of self confidence and feeling of inadequacy can result from small breast. augmentation of breast may release them from the inferiority and may give them feeling of equality and self worth.

In recent years, the improved prosthesis and safe surgical technique made it possible annual increase of breast augmentation.

The authors had performed augmentation mammoplasty to 86 patients during last 8 years from May, 1973 to June, 1981. The available 70 cases of follow-up study were analyzed.

The results were as follows;

1. The main cause of operation was hypoplasia of breast(90.7%).

2. The age of the patients were ranged between 20 to 49, but most of them were in late twenties and thirties.

3. The complications were hematoma(8.6%), infection(1.4%), exposure of prosthesis(2.9%), spherical contracture(46.4%), hypertrophic scar(7.1%) and Mondor¡¯s disease(1.4%).

4. The severity of spherical contracture was graded as below (Baker¡¯s Classification);

Grade¥°¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤53.6%

Grade¥±¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤9.3%

Grade¥²¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤20.7%

Grade¥³¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤¡¤16.4%

5. The incidence of spherical contracture had reduced from 60.5% to 41.2% after the use of steroid.

6. The onset of spherical contracture was most frequent during postoperative 1 to 3 months.

7. The closed capsulotomy was performed to 29 patients, but 10 cases (34.5%) were recurred.
